A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid year, winning just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time trainer Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's maiden trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of the previous year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has won 21 titles at 21 various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, comprising in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

He rescued 4 initial chances in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
